Some rugs need more than an on-site clean: silk and viscose, antiques, heavily soiled rugs and rugs with pet accidents. They’re washed at a rug cleaning facility, with inspection before and after.
When a rug should go to the facility
The dirt you can’t see is the reason.
Rugs hold far more soil than their surface shows: grit works down to the foundation and wears the fibers from inside. A full wash at the facility reaches that soil in a way on-site cleaning cannot, and the rinse water shows it.
- Fine and delicate fibers: silk, viscose and “bamboo silk”, antique wool
- Heavy soiling, or a rug that hasn’t been washed in years
- Pet accidents that have soaked through to the foundation
- Moth activity, before and alongside moth treatment
- Restoration needs: fringe, edges or worn areas that need repair

Look and quote
Send photos of the front, back and any label, or we look at the rug in person. You get a free estimate.
Pickup
We arrange pickup with you, roll the rug and take it to the facility.
Inspection
The rug is checked for fiber, dye stability, existing damage and old repairs, and anything important is noted before washing.
Washing
The rug is washed and rinsed using a method chosen for its fiber and condition.
Drying and finishing
It’s dried fully, groomed and checked again.
Return
We bring it back and can lay it in place.
Repairs and restoration are quoted separately after inspection, so you can decide what is worth doing.

How long does facility cleaning take?
It depends on the rug, the drying time it needs and any repairs. We’ll give you an expected return date when we pick it up.
Can you restore damaged fringe or edges?
Often, yes. After inspection we’ll tell you what can be repaired and quote it separately, so you can decide.
Will cleaning fix fading or old stains?
Washing removes soil and many stains, but sun fading, dye bleeding and some old stains are permanent. We’ll tell you what to expect before washing.
Is my rug insured while you have it?
Genie is an insured business. Ask us about coverage for your specific rug when you book, especially for antiques and valuable pieces.
